Unusual and Interesting Photos Part 3

1. Below each photo are suggestions for photographers. List 3 of the ones you think are the most important for photographers to remember when they are out shooting. I think it is important to make sure that there is no glare in the copy of the picture, also have a dark background with window lighting so that it looks good, also to have images that fit into the photo but make sure that it doesn't distract the main subject.
2. Pick your favorite painting, get a copy of it and post it on your blog.
3. Then go find a REAL photo that looks like your painting. DO NOT GET AN ACTUAL PHOTO OF THAT PAINTING, find a photo that copies the style of the painting, but is NOT the painting.
4. Did the photographer follow the suggestions fully? There are many other objects in the photo but also don't distract the main subject, and there is no glare.
5. Which style of painting do you think might influence you?  I mostly like photographs that aren't just photos, i want them to catch my eye or tell me a story just by looking at the picture.

1. Why did you pick this photo? This photo is so upsetting to look at but I see the flag over his coffin so it makes me wonder if he was in the army at all.
2. What category did you find this photo? I found this picture in Photo Journalist of the Year.
3. What award did it win (what place)? It won 1st place.
4. What did the photographer do that attracted your eye? (I am not talking about the subject, but what the photographer did) It got my eye because how he got the flag and the daughter touching her dad or brother in the picture, he also got it at a really good angle.
5. How much do you think the subject of the photo weighed in the judges minds when they picked this photo as one of the best of 2012? It probably weighed more because of how sad this photograph is.
6. What do you think the photographer had to do that was unique to getting this photo? There are many sad photographs out there but this one stood out to the judges and me because of how cool the flag looks with the man.

1. Why did you pick this photo? This photo looks so cool with the water swished around to flocs up on the 4 leaf clovers
2. What category did you find this photo? I found this photo in the Environment category.
3. What award did it win (what place)? It was in AE1.
4. What did the photographer do that attracted your eye? (I am not talking about the subject, but what the photographer did) The water that was moved around caught my eye in the picture.
5. How much do you think the subject of the photo weighed in the judges minds when they picked this photo as one of the best of 2012? I have never really seen a photo like this so I think it weighed more then normal.
6. What do you think the photographer had to do that was unique to getting this photo? The water made the photograph unique because that was the first thing that I saw.

2. What category did you find this photo? In Feature Single
3. What award did it win (what place)? AE2
4. What did the photographer do that attracted your eye? (I am not talking about the subject, but what the photographer did) The photo would of been boring if the photographer took the photo straight on it but since he tok it looking up from it the photo looks amazing.
5. How much do you think the subject of the photo weighed in the judges minds when they picked this photo as one of the best of 2012? I wouldn't say that this photograph weighed down the judges but it is a cool picture.
6. What do you think the photographer had to do that was unique to getting this photo ?  The photographer had to get it at a really cool angle and he did!

Unusual and Interesting Photos Part 1

1. What is your reaction to his work? Christian Rhum's work at first I couldn't figure out what it was but after I looked at it again I could tell that the main subject of the photograph was triplicated. It is a pretty cool picture.

2. How do you think he made these photos? He most likely took pictures at different angles and them merged them over each other, or  maybe edited the picture with photo shopping it in.

3 Think about some buildings you have seen, which ones would be good to take a photo like this? Tell me about those buildings, where are they, could you get easy access to them? The Statue of Liberty would be a really cool place to take a picture like this. It might not be as easy to access it but it would be a great photo and it is in New York.

Academics & Community Service Picture

1. Why did you pick this photo? This photo looks really simple and it tells a story, I love how simple and cool the picture looks.

2. What rules of photography are evident in the photo? I found that this picture shows simplicity, and balance. On the edge you can see that each side of the picture has book shelfs, that means the picture looks symmetrical. it also shows simplicity because it is focused on the boy with the books and it the simple floor as the background.

Finally - your next shoot will involve shooting academics, which means in classrooms around the campus.

1. Where do you think you could take photos like the ones you look at today? Most of them could be taken in classrooms or extracurricular places, or pep rallies.

2. Whose classroom would you like to visit and take photos in? Like a biology room because my teacher Mrs. Vohl has experiments for ecosystems with fish for the older classes and that could be cool for taking pictures.

3. What will you do, as the photographer, to get amazing photos like you look at today? I will take amazing photos by using the rules of photography and also getting action pictures at the perfect time.

Academic pre-photo shoot assignment

Shows the most Interesting Stuff
This photograph shows the most interesting stuff. The picture makes me wonder what they are doing, it looks really cool. And the people in the picture look really surprised.

Unethical Photos

I think this is the most unethical photo because it was really unnecessary to photo shop the women's teeth and pretend that she got a photo. I really can't see the reason why they decided to use this photo and photoshop it. I think this was a poor choice to use this photo.

I think this photo is least unethical because it is barely edited. It doesn't really have a change in the photo. I could see the reason that they edited it to darken it up a bit but, it doesn't look that bad. It wasn't really necessary to edit it but it doesn't look that obvious.

Manipulating Photos

A. Summarize the main points of the story in 2-4 sentences.
This story explains that editing and manipulating photos with photoshop can be wrong. Photoshop can be bad with adding images and making it obvious. In this case they weren't so happy with the way that they photoshopped picture. They sent photos into the newspaper but since they were photoshopped. The main point of this story was the way that they used photos hoping made the photograph ooh bad.

B. Explain why you think this type of photo editing is unethical or acceptable. I think that this type of photo editing is unethical. It is definitely wrong to use it to make the photo look different when it is fine just the way the photo was. Instead the people in the story edited the photo so it made the photo false or fake.

Post Shoot Reflection

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get the photos of your first 4 prompts (Square, Metal, Happy, Bowie) Since we didn't have a lot of time to look at every single photo after we took a photo and make sure that the photo looked good, we just had to find out what they looked like when we downloaded them.

2. What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly. Most of the time I was holding the camera underneath to zoom in and zoom out to take the photo. I also tried to find ways like framing and try to take really good photos.

3. If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photography? I would definitely use the composition rules to make my photo look good, now that I know more about how you can make your photograph look good.

4. What things would you do the same? I still would take pictures from the angle like I normally do and also I would still hold the camera the same way.

5. Finally - go back and edit your blogs with the 4 photos (square, metal, happy, Bowie), tell me what rules of composition (which you just learned about) did you end up actually achieving? Did you have any?

6. Are you interested in shooting those same prompts again, why?

Maybe because now that we learned about the rules of composition we could go take photos again and make them better.]

PART 2:
 http://jamiesphotojournalism.blogspot.com/2014/09/first-prompt-shoot.html

Overall her photos were good. I loved her photo with the simplicity in it. I also like the happy one because the girl at the kennel looked so happy and was waving. But with the Bowie photo I really couldn't understand what she was trying to represent.

Avoiding Mergers

This photograph show the rule of avoiding mergers. It shows avoiding mergers because as you can see they're a ton of people being cut in half out of the picture. The photographer should of moved back or zoomed out so that you could get everyone in the photograph.

Balance

This photograph represents balance. It shows balance because it is a symmetrical picture with the escalators. The main subject of this picture is the escalators i the building. It doesn't show any depth at all but it still meets the rule of balance.

Framing

This photograph represents the rules of framing. The picture is focusing on the man climbing up the latter and the cracked pieces are framing the main subject. There is nothing in the background that is distracting the viewer so it meets the rule of framing.

Lines

This photograph represent lines because the lines of the building lead to the big explosive in the the building. The lines don't take away the focus from the picture of the explosive. So this picture meets the rule of lines.

The Rule of Thirds

This picture represents the rule of thirds because the flag is the main subject and it is in the bottom corner on the right. There is a piece of the building sticking out of the background but the colors of the flag stand out of the picture the most.

Simplicity

I choose this photo because, there aren't things in the background that is distracting. It  is mostly just focusing up on the twin towers and the pretty blue sky in the background. So the twin towers with the exploding fire is the main subject and it meets the rule for simplicity.

National Geographic

1. This is my favorite photo out of all 45 photos I looked at. I love the angle that the photographer took it at. It looks amazing and you can see in the back-round that there is like a cliff and some hills which makes it look cool. I also love how the photographer put it really close up to her eye.

2. I would probably take a photo to submit to the contest somewhere where no one takes photos or somewhere unique, there are millions of photos of the beach and the sky with valleys and all the landscape pictures.

Touching People

1. What do you think about this project and photo essay? I think this is a great way to see other peoples reactions and to see if they will actually do it.
2. What would you do if someone approached you with a camera and asked you to participate in a photo shoot and then asked you to touch a stranger? I would actually take the picture with the stranger, at first I would probably be a little freaked out but I would actually take a picture with a stranger.
3. Think of an unusual photo shoot similar to this one that you think would be fun to go and shoot. An unusual photo shoot that would be fun to take is like running up and photo bombing in the picture that other people are taking.
4. Finally, tell me what you thought of the photography, are the photos good? Do you like looking at them? The photos looked good. They looked just like a normal picture. None of the people looked like they were scared at all.

Top 40 Best Photos Ever

Photographer Unknown
I picked this photo because I loved the idea of them taking 3 pictures throughout their life. The way that they positioned the camera and it was just a simple smiling picture. Above them on the wall is the picture they took before they took their picture now. I think it made the Top 40 Photos ever is because it shows you throughout your life in pictures.

By: Aaron Thompson
I picked this photo because of how sweet this father and his son and their relationship. I love how they caught the picture at the perfect time when the dad was tilting his head and the boy is crying. I think it made the Top 40 Photos because it is a memorial photo and how sad it is when someone leaves off to war.

By: George Gross
I picked this photo because it shows a mom and a little girl that are Jews and it is the day that they were free from the "death train" and it was over. I love how the photographer that took this photo caught this photo when they were free and getting off the train. I think it made the Top 40 Photos ever because this was such a horrifying event and it made a big impact in history.

Best Photos from the 1st Prompt Shoot

Bowie
I choose this photo for bowie because the bulldog is the mascot or the representation of Bowie. This photo falls under the rule of simplicity because it is focused up on the bulldog with the simple concrete background.

Metal
I choose this photo of metal because it looked cool with the vines wrapping around the metal bars. This photo falls under the rule of lines because there are many lines.

Square
I choose this photo for square because the looks cool with the blurred out picture through the squares. It also falls under the rule of lines because there are so many lines in this picture.

Happy
I choose this picture for happy because the tree is growing and happy. It doesn't really fall under any rules at all.

Warm Up 9/16

1. What did you think about that unique idea?  At first I thought it was a little creepy but  when I really looked at the pictures they looked really cool.
2. When you first looked at the photos, did it take you a second to figure out what you were looking at? I had no idea what it was at first but i noticed it was a forehead and that the picture was just flipped upside down.
3. Sometime maybe you can try something unique like this….. Yes I would like to try this, it is a really cool way to make your photo look different and unique.

The Camera

1.  The camera obsurca effect was an effect that was used as the first camera. camera obsurca in Latin means dark room. It was achieved by putting a hole through the wall and the hole acts like a lens and it projects light onto the wall in the dark room.
2.  In the 17th century Isaac Newton and Christian Huygene invented the high quality glass lenses that came one step closer to the modern camera.
3.  The parts of the first modern camera by Niepce were a dark box, a film and glass lenses.
4.  The modern camera and the digital camera both have a glass lens and a film.
5. The digital cameras use an electric sensor called a CCD to capture images.
6. In Program mode you control the flash and camera settings but auto mode does it all for you.
7. It is used to take pictures of people and it works by trying to blur out the background.
8. The sports mode is used for freeze motion and it uses the highest shutter speed as much as possible.
9.A half press on the trigger button will focus on the picture.
10. The symbol means to disable the flash and you use it when it isn't dark outside.
11.This symbol means auto flash  it is used when it is dark outside because there is not a lot of light.
12. If there is too much light the picture will come out looking washed out.
13. Not enough light in the picture will come out looking way too dark.
14. A stop is a relative change in brightness and light.
15. It would be one time the stop with two suns.
16. It would be two times the stop with four suns.
17. With a longer shutter speed it gives way more light.
18. With a shorter shutter speed it doesn't give off much light.
19. The aperture controls the light.
20. It opens it up to let the light through.

Best and Worst photos Of Teammates!

This is one of my best pictures that I took at the photo-shoot. It is a picture of my friend Sarah and I like this picture because she is on a ladder and the trees are arching over her. You can see the old farm in the background and it makes it look cool.

This is my least favorite photo, it is a picture of Kathleen. What makes it a bad photo is the angle of where it was shot. Also the windows in the picture with the reflection make it look weird. It was captured at the wrong time so it looks really blurry too.
